In the United States, over 100 billion pounds of food, nearly 40% of the total amount, are wasted annually, while 34 million people, including 9 million children, experience food insecurity. This wastage not only impacts the economy and worsens food insecurity but also contributes to environmental problems such as climate change. The discarded food accounts for approximately 10% of greenhouse gas emissions, which are responsible for global warming.
Food Bridge's primary goal is to facilitate connections between individuals or businesses with extra food and those in need. This platform is open to diverse users, including farms, food banks, grocery stores, restaurants, and individuals willing to contribute or seeking food assistance.
Food Bridge enables users to easily either donate surplus food or receive assistance. Donors can create listings featuring detailed information about the available food items, including descriptions, addresses, pick-up times, and contact details. On the other hand, individuals facing food shortage can explore these listings and collect items at their convenience.
Food Bridge plays a crucial role in directing surplus food to those most in need, effectively tackling both food waste and food insecurity challenges.
